Laxman Jhula in Rishikesh is one of the major tourist attractions for those who visit Rishikesh. Basically, it is a hanging bridge across river Ganga, around 450 ft long and 70 ft above the river. In early times, the jhula was a hanging jute bridge, but later it was transformed into an Iron suspension bridge. The bridge is used as a path to visit Swarg Ashram and Gita Bhavan. Also, one should not miss the great Terah Manzil; a thirteen story temple in close proximity to Laxman Jhula.

2. THE BEATLES ASHRAM

Beatles Ashram, also known as Chaurasi Kutia, is an ashram close to the north Indian city of Rishikesh in the state of Uttarakhand. It is located on the eastern bank of the Ganges river, opposite the Muni Ki Reti area of Rishikesh, in the foothills of the Himalayas.

During the 1960s and 1970s, as the International Academy of Meditation, it was the training centre for students of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who devised the Transcendental Meditation technique. The ashram gained international attention between February and April 1968 when the English rock band the Beatles studied meditation there, along with celebrities such as Donovan, Mia Farrow and Mike Love. It was the setting for the band’s most productive period as songwriters, where they composed most of the songs for their self-titled double album, also known as the “White Album”.

3. SWARG ASHRAM

On the left bank of River Ganges, is located one of the oldest Yoga Ashrams in India. The Swarh Ashram covers the whole area between the Ram and Laxman Jhula and was built in the memory of Saint Swami Vishudhanand. It is a perfect place for people who seek solitude in this holy city. You can sit and meditate for hours near the private river banks which are totally devoid of any rituals found at the rest of the banks or just sit watching the sun rise from the Shivaliks, setting fire to the cold, glistening waters of Ganga.

4. RAJAJI NATIONAL PARK

Rajaji National Park is distinct for its pristine scenic beauty and rich bio-diversity. A paradise for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts, the wildlife of the park is blessed with elephants, tigers, leopards, deers and ghorals as its best known life forms. Three sancturies in the Uttarakhand, Shivaliks – Rajaji, Motichur and Chila were amalgamated into a large protected area and named Rajaji National Park in the year 1983 after the famous freedom fighter Late Sri C. Rajgopalachari; popularly known as “Rajaji”.

This area is the North Western Limit of Asian elephants. Spread over an area of 820.42 sq km, Rajaji is a magnificient ecosystem nestled in the Shivalik ranges and the beginning of the vast Indo–Gangetic plains, thus representing vegetation of several distinct zones and forest types like sal forests, reverine forests, board–leaved mixed forests, scrubland and grassy. It posseses as many as 23 species of mammals and 315 bird species.The abundance of nature’s bounties heaped in and around this park, are bound to attract a large number of wildlife conservationalists, nature lovers and eco-friends to visit this most breathtaking wilderness area.

6. SHIVPURI

Shivpuri is situated 19 km away from Rishikesh, on the National Highway between Rishikesh and Patisira. As the name suggests, Shivpuri is the abode of Lord Shiva and is renowned for its temple. Apart from this, Shivpuri offers various opportunities for indulging in sports like river rafting, rock climbing cliff jumping & rappelling. Shivpuri is 16 KMS away from Lakshman Jhula. Shivpuri Rishikesh is known for its river rafting activity. The ganga river flows just beside Shivpuri.
